I’m currently in the middle of writing Sins of the Warrior, book 4 in the Grigori Legacy.
Or at least, I was in the middle of it.
But when I passed the 50k mark, writing became slower and more difficult…until I felt like I was swimming upstream in thick, gooey oatmeal. Why oatmeal? Because not only was it tough going, it was also bland. Very bland.
Now, I’m not currently under deadline for this story, but I do have a responsibility to my readers that I don’t take lightly. I didn’t leave them in a very nice place after Sins of the Lost, and I know how anxious they are to find out how things are resolved for poor Alex (will she? won’t she? with whom?!?), and so I’m trying not to drag this process out too much. Honest.
But I also have a responsibility to deliver the very best possible story. My readers deserve it. My characters deserve it. Heck, after putting heart and soul into this series, I deserve it.
And the book as it was evolving was not going to be its best. Or mine.
So, instead of pushing through and trying to make it work somehow (which I’m pretty sure I could have done), I’ve decided to cut my losses and go back to the beginning (which really was very good). Yep. You read that right. I’m starting over. Not completely–some of what I’d written will still stand, of course, albeit in a revised form–but enough so that I’ve had to resign myself to this book taking just a little(!) bit longer to put into my readers’ hands than I anticipated.
Long story short? If you’re one of the readers waiting for Alex’s finale, hang in there. It’s coming. I promise.
And it will be a damned awesome book when it gets here. 😉
