Walking With Giant Dog

This is my Charlie. All 127 lbs of him (he’s a husky/shepherd/great Dane cross).

This is him with my husband, who, at six feet tall, is not a small man. Suffice it to say that Charlie is…rather large. Which would explain my tendency to refer to him online these days as Giant Dog.

Depending on the situation, other nicknames include Charlie-Horse (for obvious reasons), Moron, Prince Charles, Chuck, and Jesus Dog (long story…remind me to tell you sometime 😉 ). But I digress, because this post is about walks.

Charlie loves walks. Charlie needs walks. Without walks, Charlie becomes a pent-up force of nature that poses a distinct threat to household furniture. (Sofas and tables don’t stand a chance against 127 lbs of MUST. RUN. NOW!!! Trust me on that. 😛 ). Fortunately, we have some amazing trails in the area where I can turn him loose to run off some of that boundless energy and enthusiasm. Also fortunately, from Charlie’s perspective, those trails generally include water and/or mud holes for cooling off. (His husky heritage makes his preferred walking temperature is sub-sub-sub-zero.)

From start to finish, this is what walking Giant Dog looks like on most days. 🙂

Start of the trail. Note the still pristine white paws.

We truly are spoiled to have this just 5 minutes from home!

…or better yet, a bog to play in.
After which he emerges without quite-so-pristine feet. Or chest. Or belly. Or chin. *sigh*

Fortunately, we have a "rinse cycle" available to us. ;)
Thankfully, we have a “rinse cycle” available to us before we head home to dry off! 😉

So…who’s up for a walk? Or maybe bathing a dog…? 😉

Love, love, LOVE my trails, Sharon — and I’ve learned to live with the muck, lol!

Oh wow, he’s a big dog! I have enough trouble with two hyper cats running around destroying and knocking things over lol, but it must be nice to go for walks everyday with him 🙂 I bet he’s a real softie.

He’s a total softie, Kelsey! Until someone comes to the door, and then he’s just plain scary. Ask the mailman! 😉

Lol, Cynthia…your dogs are about the size of one of Charlie’s squeaky toys. 😀 But he loves little dogs & tries to shrink himself down to their size to play. Too funny!
