The Twelve Days Before Christmas

So…

I’ve just realized that Christmas is exactly 12 days away. Given that I have done absolutely nothing to prepare just yet (okay, I have bought one gift…), this has inspired me to get my rear end in gear. Especially since one of my daughters is coming home from university a week from today. O.O

Ergo, my new (and I hope never-to-be-repeated!) Twelve Days Before Christmas as I foresee them happening—I highly recommend that you don’t even try to put it to the original tune! 😉

On the first day of the 12 days before Christmas, I went looking for the decorations…and ended up cleaning out ten years worth of clutter from under the stairs!

On the second day of the 12 days before Christmas, I have to find my holiday recipes, make lists of all my baking needs…and clean the kitchen from top to bottom so no animal hair gets included in my gifts!

On the third day of the 12 days before Christmas, I need to bake three kinds of cookies, two types of tarts, and both gluten-free and ordinary buns!

On the fourth day of the 12 days before Christmas, I’ll make cranberry chutney and apricot jam for gift-giving, because noooooo, I couldn’t possibly have done this a month ago when I’d planned!

On the fifth day of the 12 days before Christmas, I’ll most likely decide I need to handcraft ornaments for friends and make aprons to give to my daughters (who had better not be reading my blog for the first time ever right now!!!)!

On the sixth day of the 12 days before Christmas, I’ll decorate the house and spend the day convincing our kitten that no, this isn’t all for her benefit!

On the seventh day of the 12 days before Christmas, I’ll put together gift baskets for friends and chase the kitten away from those, too!

On the eighth day of the 12 days before Christmas, I get to pick up my daughter and her boyfriend from the airport—woot! 🙂

On the ninth day of the 12 days before Christmas, I’ll drag my husband from tree lot to tree lot in the freezing cold (it’s a tradition 😉 ) in search of the perfect tree!

On the tenth day of the 12 days before Christmas, I’ll make a lovely dinner and have all my family (including the boyfriends) over to decorate the tree! Oh, and must remember to pick up my turkey!

On the eleventh day of the 12 days before Christmas, I’m sure I’ll make fifteen trips to the store to buy all the last-minute things I inevitably forget, then wrap presents and put them under the tree!

On the twelfth day of the 12 days before Christmas, I’ll premake cranberry sauce, clean all my vegetables, make the stuffing and gravy base, and then sit with the lights off and admire that gorgeous tree!

I’ll let you know how the plans work out, shall I? 😉

Happy holiday preparations, everyone!
