So my life has reached THAT stage. Two of our three daughters have left the nest, and our third is looking to do so next year, and hubby and I are looking at a probable move sometime not too long after that. To that end, I thought I’d get a head start on the downsizing process. And wow, am I ever glad that I did, because let me tell you, after 20 years of living with four packrats, we have stuff crammed into every nook and cranny of this place. 😛
I can be a bit of a hard-ass about ditching things I no longer need, but man, let me tell you…when it comes to all the bits of broken pottery and tattered crafts made by wee hands? Turns out I’m a ball of mush. ::sigh::
I’m developing a kind-of-set-of-rules as I go, however. If it’s broken, it goes. If I can’t remember who made it for what occasion, gone. If I can remember who made it but I really don’t have room to keep it, I offer it to the creator. If she doesn’t want it, gone.
It’s a slow process, and not an easy one, but I’m making headway, I think. Several trips to the goodwill store have been made, the recycling bin has been filled multiple times, and more bags of garbage than I care to think about have made their way to the curb. I still seem to have way more in the house than I want to have, but I suspect this might require multiple baby steps.
And speaking of babies…::sniff::…I found these today.
Dang, this is going to be harder than I thought. 😛
