With a ton of personal stuff claiming the better part of my summer so far, I’ve had to put writing on hold for the last couple of weeks. Things are settling down now, however (crosses fingers!), and so I announced yesterday on myย Facebook page that I would be getting back to work onย Sins of the Righteous starting today. Sharon ofย I Smell Sheep blog promptly jumped in with the suggestion that, to make up for my dearth of progress recently, I should post an excerpt. I thought that was a marvelous idea and said I’d post two paragraphs from her choice of page (45). Because those paragraphs seemed somewhat meager, I even added a little more. ๐
So here you have it, folks…by special request and from page 45 ofย Sins of the Righteous (which, being a work-in-progress, is entirely subject to change!), the tail-end of a scene between Aramael and Mika’el:

“Have you ever noticed how the rules for good are more restrictive than those for evil?” he asked.
“Have you ever considered that those restrictions are what keep us good?” the other Archangel countered. He drew himself tall. Massive, coal-black wings unfurled and stretched wide. “Remember who you are, Aramael.ย What you are. Angels are the last and final line of defense between Hell and Earth, and Archangels the last hope of–” He broke off, his face going bleak.
“Of what?”
Mika’el’s jaw turned to stone. “Nothing,” he said. “It doesn’t matter. Not anymore. Just remember we have no more room for mistakes.”
With a great rush of wind, he launched into the air, leaving Aramael alone on the boulder-strewn hill. Alone for days, weeks, months–maybe even centuries–with nothing but his thoughts to keep him company. Thoughts of how he came to be in this place to begin with, memories of Alexandra Jarvis and how he had chosen her over his very purpose…and how she had chosen Seth over him.
Thoughts, memories, and that lingering tug of a connection he dared not admit.

And now, back to writing… ๐
