If you’re reading this author’s blog, it’s pretty safe to assume that you enjoy books. I’d also venture a guess that you also (most likely) enjoy going to bookstores. And that you may even buy some of your books AT those bookstores. Am I right? 😉
Well, my friends, tomorrow is the perfect time to indulge in all three of those pursuits because it’s Save the Bookstores Day across North America! How cool is that? throws confetti
Now in its second year, Save the Bookstores Day was started by Kelly Sonnack, an agent at the Andrea Brown Literary Agency “because we need to support our storefronts. No more obituary section in publishing news, please!” (according to the event’s 2011 Facebook page). The idea is simple: wherever you are, take the time to show your love of books by visiting a brick-and-mortar bookstore and buying a book (or two or five!). Try a new author, pick up an old favorite you haven’t read since you were a kid (and buy an extra for your kid!), choose something outside your usual genre. Make Saturday, June 16, 2012 the day you pick up those beach/cottage reads you’ve been eyeing…or, if you’re the kind who needs to justify a book purchase, be uber organized and get an early start on your Christmas list. 😀
Many independent bookstores will be holding special events during the day, so if you have one of those near you, be sure to check it out. I’ll be attending The Collected Works Bookstore in Ottawa, where they’re planning “a day FULL of authors… just about anyone I can think of will be in to sign their books… meet their readers… drink the good coffee.” (And The Grigori Legacy books would make awesome beach reads…don’t you think? ;)).
So how about it? Are you in?
