Post-holiday blues

Well, this is it. Time to take down the Christmas tree and put away the decorations for another year. While a part of me looks forward to a return to my ordinary routine (I really need to get back to Alex and the Archangel Michael!), another part of me isn’t quite as enthusiastic.

There’s something so warm and comforting about the holiday season with its sparkle and colour, the extended visits with family and friends, the cozy-ing up with blankets and books and fireplaces…and especially the slowing down for a few precious days, almost as if time itself takes a breath in the middle of winter, encouraging me to do the same.

It’s no wonder I’m sad to see the end of it.

And so, as the outside world grows light and comes to life for another day, I linger over a second cup of coffee, basking in the glow from the tree lights, holding on to that sense of peace for just a little longer. Christmas will still go back into its boxes today…just not yet.
