On the Road Again

So I’m away from home again. Whee?

This time I’m in Toronto with hubby and youngest daughter as we check out a potential school program for her (she wants to be a video game designer…how cool is that?). We drove down yesterday, and we’re camped out in a cozy little apartment we found through Airbnb, not far from the university. How cozy? I’m typing this in the dark while daughter sleeps on the hideabed eight feet away. Very cozy.

But cheaper than a hotel. 😉

We meet with the faculty head later this morning, then (time permitting) we’ll check out a couple of tourist attractions…because it’s daughter’s first time in Toronto, and we can’t not check out tourist attractions, right? Tomorrow, daughter has arranged to meet up at Canada’s Wonderland with a gamer friend she’s known online for two years but never met (it’s such a brave new world out there, folks). Hubby and I are going to spend the day there, too…though not likely on many of the rides. I still haven’t lived down our one and only other trip there two decades ago…or my utter terror while riding the Smurf roller coaster in the kiddy section…

The antique carousel is much more my speed. And maybe the swan boats.

Seriously.

Yes, I know I’m a total ride-wimp. I’ve made my peace with that. 😀

We’ll head home on Sunday, and fun touristy stuff aside, I’ll be very glad to do so. This road trip marks our sixth this summer (two day trips and four that required one to three nights of overnighting — plus a train trip), and I never thought I’d hear myself say this, but I think I’m just about done with travelling for a while.

Although I think I might keep my upcoming anniversary date with hubby…

As long as he does the driving. 😉

I hear you on the rides. I went to Wonderland last summer with my family (my third time there). I handled the first few rides alright (we started light), but then had a complete breakdown on The Bat. The rest of my day involved a lot of watching everyone else go on rides. And for a good month or two after I couldn’t even think about The Bat without starting to freak out again.

Ride wimps unite! 🙂 Though I must admit I can’t even watch the things if someone I know is on one… 😛

Your daughter is so lucky to have a mom like you. I wish someone would have taken me to see my university and the city before I moved to Ottawa. I literally had never been here before and I only made it to the university a few days before school started. It was horrific trying to find everything. I still am missing a lot of information about university even after finishing a degree there (like where the cafeteria is). I always envied the kids with loving parents who brought their kids personally to their dorms rather than forcing them to take a bus to their university. So jealous!

Aww…that’s so sad, Debbie. 🙁 I’m sorry you had such a rough start to university, but huge congrats to you for not giving up! That’s an enormous accomplishment!!! I hope Ottawa was at least kind to you? ((hugs))
