Of Easter Lilies and Not-Very-Bright Cats

(Yes, yes, I know…I’m supposed to be posting a Social Media Monday post today, but what can I say? It’s a long weekend, I’m lazy, and I may have a slight chocolate hangover. Anyway…you get this instead. 😉 )

I don’t know quite when the tradition started, but when my mother was alive, I bought her an Easter lily every year for many, many years. The year after she died, one of my daughters took up the tradition on my behalf, bringing me an Easter lily in her grandmother’s memory. I know…it makes me teary, too.

Unfortunately, one of our cats (George) has a thing for plants and flowers. They arrive in the house, he eats their leaves, and then he proceeds to vomit. Repeatedly. It doesn’t matter how high or narrow a shelf I put them on, he somehow finds a way to get at them. George is…”special”, but we love him.

I have, however, given up on houseplants altogether.

Except my Easter lily. Because I really, really like getting that each year. Easter was one of my mom’s favourite celebrations, and I’m gosh-darned if I’ll let a not-very-bright feline take that away from me.

And so this is my solution:

.11

Yep. The bathroom off my home office is the only place in the house that I can consistently maintain as cat-free.

I may be the only one who ever sees the plant, but I say you do what you gotta do, right? 🙂

An ingenious solution! Cats can be such a nuisance; Goof does the same thing to flowers and plants. smh

Yep, they can be a pain, all right…and yet we still love them. And cater to their every whim… 😉

That is a good thing Linda because as we found out to our sorrow when looking after a kitten of Erin and Craig’s that lilys are deadly for cats… not dogs though. The pollen shuts down their kidneys and after a hefty vet bill and three days of intense care the kitten died…

Oh, Darlene, that is so sad!!! I had no idea. 🙁 Fortunately George tends to prefer the leaves to the flowers. He’s a weird cat at the best of times. Every time I make a salad, he’s bumming bits of lettuce off me. o.O

Maybe George is a vegan! My Tucker ate our baby Tangerine tree in two gulps. And then he smiled!<:0

Sounds like George and Tucker have much in common…including very patient cat-mommies! 😉
